‘Teen Wolf’ season 3, episode 2 review: Risk and reward

Teen WolfThe second “Teen Wolf” episode of the post-Colton Haynes era aired on Monday night, and there were a few interesting themes happening tonight: Is chasing after something really worth the risk, and can a certain super-powerful group really be stopped?

There were some pretty downright cool moments that we saw through here, from the old “we’re going to nearly kill you in ice” trick to a man flicking a coin into a mug … one of the cooler silly things we’ve seen on TV since Walter White threw a pizza onto his roof. There were also some major story points, including Scott having unleash a secret about a certain someone’s family that she was not exactly excited or ready to hear. Secrets have been what have bound some of these characters, and we like the prospect of that becoming unhinged.

Then, there was that scream in the closing seconds. How much is that going to stay with you for weeks to come? We don’t really think of this show as particularly scary, but we’ll make an exception for this one moment.

Thus far, we have to say that “Teen Wolf” is really holding its own and doing a rather good job. We were admittedly very worried about where the show was going to head without Haynes, and especially since “Teen Wolf” had tried to inject so much action and drama into the first two years already. It’s pretty hard to find a way to up the ante time after time.
