NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5: Gillian Jacobs, Chevy Chase to reunite … elsewhere

CommunityWhile we don’t typically cover anything really related to movies at CarterMatt.com, the “Community” connections to this story are just so fascinating that they are worth pointing out.

You could basically rename the upcoming sequel to “Hot Tub Time Machine” “The NBCMovie,” at least based on some of the people who are on board the cast right now. Craig Robinson and Clark Duke (“The Office”) are once again a part of the cast, as is Rob Corddry (who had a brief two-episode stint on “Community”). Now, we’re hearing that Chevy Chase, who is not returning to the NBC show, will reprise his role in the sequel, and that Gillian Jacobs (otherwise known as Britta) is going to be one of the female leads on the movie.

So could there be some awkwardness on the set, given that “Community” had a good deal of reported tension behind-the-scenes prior to Chevy’s departure? Probably not, given that we do not know whether or not Chase and Jacobs are even going to be doing any scenes together. If they are, they are both professionals and should be capable of taking on any personality conflict challenges that may come their way.

This film has just started shooting, and for Gillian in particular, it marks a nice opportunity to get herself some major credits in the event that NBC breaks our hearts and chooses not to give “Community” that sixth season to go along with the movie. Personally, we’re so desperate to see more of the show that we hope someone else picks up the show if it is canceled this coming year (or someone puts it on Kickstarter) just so that Abed’s famous prophecy for “The Cape” can be carried over to this show.

“Community” season 5 will start filming a little later this year, and if you want to know what former guest-star has hopes of coming back for more, all you have to do is click here.
