MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 3, episode 9 review: Did dreams ruin Jenna and Matty?
Finally, we are getting to the real meat of “Awkward” season 3 … and boy, is it tasty! Some stories that have been brewing for quite a long time finally came to a head, and the results were oh-so sweet, dramatic, and yes, ridiculously funny.
Has the whole storyline with Ming vs. the Asian mafia been at times stereotypical and racially-charged? Sure, but it has also been intentionally satiric and designed to be silly, and after seven months of being constantly terrorized by Becca, she finally managed to get out by punching her in the face and having many of the former ringleader’s old cronies turn against her.
As for the often tragic tale of Jenna Hamilton, we finally started to dive into what is the root of the problem yet again when it comes to her relationship with Matty. While she loves him and wants to be with him, the guy still at the same time lacks that spark. For much of the episode, she was more than paranoid at the thought of potentially losing him over a story that was at its core a fantasy she had written about the mysterious Colin. However, when Matty read it, he assumed that it was a fantasy that she wanted to live out with him. Talk about a serious “whew moment” … but we’re also assuming right now that this is far from over, and the feelings will surface again eventually.
Oh, and in terms of the disturbing, we also were introduced this week to the “celebrity sandwich” … something that will almost surely make you saw “eww” to yourself. Seriously.
