Summer TV preview: ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ is back … with Lauren Cohan?
Rather than go along with another chapter of our Fall TV Preview series today, we’re going to shake things up a little bit. To quote one famous comedy while talking about another, and now for something completely different…
We love “Whose Line Is It Anyway?,” and always will. We’ve seen the vast majority of the Drew Carey-hosted episodes, and found many of the ones in the first few seasons (before the show got bloated with filler and overly repetitive) to be among the most-hilarious things we’ve ever seen on TV. This show brought us a Stephen Colbert, Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady, and Colin Mochrie who is a genius.
This is why we are so excited about the show’s return on Tuesday, July 16. It is on The CW, there is a new host in Aisha Tyler, but so much else still feels the same. Mochrie, Brady, and Stiles are all back, and there will be some more performers thrown into the mix. Just in the promo below, there’s Lauren Cohan from “The Walking Dead”! The cool thing about this show is that it is such a big name that there should be some famous faces willing to stop by at any time.
We’ve already made our support clear, so we’ll express what may be our biggest concern. Is it really that smart to give us what we want? We’ve already seen years of Mochrie, Stiles, and Brady, and for a younger-skewing network in The CW, we don’t know if they will pull in the viewers. (Maybe that’s what the rotating fourth guest chair is for.) We love having them there; we just don’t want the show to have a short life.
As for Tyler as the host, we’re not worried at all. Anyone who has seen her standup knows already that she is much filthier than she comes across on “The Talk,” and she should fit in perfectly as Drew’s replacement. We just hope that she embarrasses herself like Drew did at the end of every episode.
