Katie Couric admits to one-time talks of ‘Today Show’ return

Katie CouricWould Katie Couric ever return to “The Today Show”? We don’t have a definitive answer to that at the moment, but we can at least confirm now that the daytime TV host was at one point considered for a return.

In a new interview on Howard Stern’s radio show only a day after he appeared on her daytime talk show, she said that there were at one point whispers about possibly bringing her back to the show that made her into a national superstar. However, they really did not get any further than that. “The Today Show” could certainly use her given that their co-host carousel has went from Meredith Vieira to Ann Curry to most recently Savannah Guthrie, and the ratings have not exactly been what NBC would hope for.

Meanwhile, Couric also told Stern in the interview that there was a time when she actually had a little “crush” on her former co-anchor Matt Lauer back when he was a reporter for WNBC, but that was many years before she ever worked with them. Their relationship was professional, and the two had different relationships / marriages going on during that time. (She also talked about there being at one point talks about doing a joint talk show with Matt, but that hasn’t happened as he has a deal to stay on the morning show for a few more years.)

Couric has reason to celebrate for the time being, as “Katie” is the most-popular new daytime host of the past year. Meanwhile, Stern will appear on the new season of “America’s Got Talent” starting up on Tuesday. If you want to see the latest extended preview for the show, all you have to do is click here.
