Melissa Leo cast in Fox, M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Wayward Pines’

FoxThanks to the success of “American Horror Story,” “Hatfields & McCoys,” and some other cable creations as of late, event series have totally become the thing in Hollywood as of late. With that in mind, it really cannot come as too great of a surprise that Fox wants one for next year in “Wayward Pines,” and they do have a big-name producer on board in M. Night Shyamalan (who must now be looking to TV for a comeback since it sure hasn’t happened in movies).

The basic story of this Fox show (which also comes from Chad Hodge) is pretty simple: Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) is a secret service agent, who finds himself landing in the small town of Wayward Pines in an effort to track some baddies down. Unfortunately, what he uncovers here is a very mysterious world in which he starts to lose everything that he knows and eventually fears for his life.

In using a tried-and-true method of storytelling here (in the “fish out of water” tale), Shyamalan has put himself in a pretty good position to succeed … especially after we also know that Melissa Leo is on board. the Oscar-winning actress is going to play Nurse Pam, who at first seems like a woman who is desperate to help Ethan upon his arrival in the town. However, over time it quickly becomes apparent that her true intentions for him are far more sinister, and the two end up being on complete opposite ends of the spectrum.

It’s still far too early to tell when this show will premiere next year, but keep your eyes peeled: We’ll have more information as it comes out.
