2013 Critics’ Choice TV Awards: ‘Big Bang Theory,’ ‘Community,’ ‘New Girl’ actors battle

Critics ChoiceThe supporting actor categories are exactly what are wrong with the Emmys and the Golden Globes right about now, but at the same time, they may be everything that is right when it comes to the Critics’ Choice TV Awards. For more of an example of this, you don’t really have to look any further than the list of names below for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. They are just about everything that you’d hope to see, whether it be diversity, six separate shows (instead of it being the entire cast of “Modern Family”), and performances that encompass everything that good comedy should be.

To make things even more exciting, we cannot sit here and say that any one of these guys is necessarily a favorite. Maybe you can give us a little bit of your personal insight with your vote in the poll below!

The nominees – Max Greenfield, “New Girl” (Fox), Simon Helberg, “The Big Bang Theory” (CBS), Alex Karpovsky, “Girls” (HBO), Adam Pally, “Happy Endings” (ABC), Chris Pratt, “Parks and Recreation” (NBC), Danny Pudi, “Community” (NBC)

The surprises – There are quite a few this time around. Karpovsky is a big one given that his character of Ray is not the most-talked-about “Girls” guy, Adam Pally being the representative of “Happy Endings” over Damon Wayans Jr. also fits the bill, and after an uneven fourth season, we’re surprised to see anyone from “Community” getting some love from the awards circuit at all.

The snubs – Everyone from “Modern Family” was left out, along with Adam Driver from “Girls,” Tony Hale from “Veep,” and Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel from “How I Met Your Mother.” It’s a good year for comedy when some of these guys who are deserving, didn’t make the list.

Who should win – It’s tough to say given the quality of this lineup, but we’re actually going to say that Pratt consistently does the best overall job as Andy, and never really gets the recognition that he deserves for it thanks to Amy Poehler, Adam Scott, and Nick Offerman getting most of the attention. We’re thrilled to see him nominated, and we’ll be even more thrilled if he manages to win.

Who will win – We’re going to go with Greenfield, mostly because “New Girl” is the sort of show that all critics seem to love. Helberg probably has a second-place finish, with Pratt likely third. We don’t really see any of the other guys having a serious shot at this, even if the Critics’ Choice TV Awards did show “Community” some love just a year ago.
