‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5: Ian Somerhalder chats with fans in Russia (videos)

Ian SomerhalderOne of the great things about being on a show like “The Vampire Diaries” is that the reach goes far beyond just people watching on The CW. This series is really a global phenomenon. That has led to there being some great opportunities over the past several weeks to see some of the actors speaking out at various conventions all around the world, with Europe being the primary focus this time. Earlier this month, we had some video highlights for you of Ian’s chat in Barcelona, Spain, and this time around, we have some clips for you from his time in Moscow, Russia.

There are a few questions mixed in here about how he tries to play Damon, his reactions to certain events as an actor, and just his general thoughts on the show and its fans. More than anything, this video is fascinating from a cultural perspective; while there are no major season 5 spoilers dropped, you get the chance to see how he really communicates and spends time with a different cross-section of people, as well as how some of them react to him. Russian fans (at least here) seem to be pretty respectful, and do not appear to be constantly on the verge of trying to rush the stage.

Ian’s travels are going to continue to take him all around the world in the next month, though he will be stopping at one point to film a movie role in the UK before eventually making his way back to Atlanta. “The Vampire Diaries” starts filming once again in mid-July, and you will likely have some more significant scoop at the show’s inevitable Comic-Con panel in Los Angeles.
