ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 3 debate: Should Scott Foley return?
As we venture deep into the “Scandal” off season, there are some questions worth asking, beginning with the status of someone whose character was either loved or hated for a good chunk of the spring. Have we seen the end of Scott Foley’s Jake Ballard on the show?
You can make the argument that most of the purpose of Jake was to look after Olivia for Fitz, and in some ways, he has done that. However, it always still felt like he was operating with his own agenda in mind, which means that there are some more games left to play now that we’re starting to get more of an idea as to who this man really is.
The sad thing is that the future for Jake is definitely in the air. Fox’s “The Goodwin Games” is not coming back for another season, and for the time being, this does mean that Foley’s schedule is somewhat open. However, this does not by any means guarantee that he will be back here. Shonda Rhimes loves him, and we’re sure that if there is a story here for him, so he could be back for at least a few episodes here and there. Who knows? “Scandal” may have a little more budget flexibility, as well, given that the ratings were so strong on ABC for season 2.
At the end of the day, we’re probably not going to be finding out too much for a while as per whether or not the actor will return to the show. Why? It’s all about getting the scripts together, and while the writers’ room got a jump on season 3 this spring, they are not releasing anything to the press.
Do you think that we should see more of Scott? We want you to vote in the poll below! If you want to read some more news when it comes to suggestions to watch during your “Scandal” hiatus, just be sure to visit the link here.

Jake is a useless character who takes airtime away from characters with potential. Scott is an uninspiring actor who bores me. His fans should follow him to whatever other show he just will occupy space on. Scandal should be allowed to move upwards and onwards without this particularly dull plot device.

PLEAAASSSSEEE!!!! I not only want him back, I need him back. He did things to me that no1 else on the show was able to. I think I’m most in love with his character. I actually cried when she kissed him in the last scene. His intense but slightly vacant stares… I ADORE!
Anyone know where I can post a message to officially state my support?

Jake Ballard ‘s character should return. He seems to really care for Olivia in the end and by saving her life, I think he redeemed himself. However, if Scott Foley does not return, there is another actor named Lucas Bryant who could easily fit into the role if he is available or interested.

No thank you! Keep him in the hole. His character was a waste of time, his storyline lame and ininteresting. I prefer Olivia to be with Edison or with an other guy!

There are so many potential story lines for the charming Jake. His approach with Olivia is a nice change of pace over the tired Olitz affair. Love their playful banter and more cerebral engagements. Even if he’s no longer her love interest, Scott Foley’s the perfect eye candy for guilty pleasure viewing such as Scandal.

The Olitz fans don’t want Scott Foley’s Jake Ballard to come back because they are threatened by his hotness and sexiness and awesome chemistry with Kerry Washington’s Olivia Pope.
