Fall TV preview: Will Rebel WIlson’s ‘Super Fun Night’ be super fun show?

Super Fun NightRight now, there are few in the entertainment business with the sort of “rising” status that Rebel Wilson has. Thanks to her part on “Pitch Perfect,” she is suddenly the it girl much in the same way that another comedic scene-stealer in Melissa McCarthy was. The difference? Rather than landing a “Saturday Night Live” gig, she instead went to the MTV Movie Awards.

Well now, her latest opportunity to shine is courtesy of a brand-new ABC comedy entitled “Super Fun Night,” which hopefully will bring with it the potential to be a super-fun show. The idea is pretty endearing, as the focus is placed on three girls, who have lived their entire lives on the inside in fear of doing anything crazy, suddenly going out and trying something new. (Yes, this may be motivated in part by a guy.)

So what happens here? Hijiniks! Physical contact! Someone showing way more skin than you would ever imagine them doing so in a pilot! “Super Fun Night” pulls out a lot of the stops in the trailer below, but there are still two things that leave us questioning whether or not Wilson really will have a hit here:

1. Will anyone else rise to Wilson’s level? If you have one actor who is such a breakout actor, you need to find other people who can rise to the occasion week in and week out.

2. The premise has us worried, mostly because it feels almost better suited for a movie than a TV show. Is every night a super fun night, is this told in a “24”-like fashion, or will they balance this out with other stories? We just don’t know the longevity of the premise that is here. ABC must, though, since it will premiere after “Modern Family” on Wednesday nights.

Based on what you’ve seen so far, though, is this something that you would at least try? This show is a part of our new Fall TV Preview series, and you can read some more profiles and watch new trailers just by clicking here.
