‘The Voice’ UK preview: Emma Jade Garbutt, Mike Ward battle on Team Tom Jones
After a week off the air due to Eurovision (which may or may not have caused some viewers to lose interest in the show), “The Voice” UK is set to return on Saturday afternoon in order to wrap up the next part of the competition: The battle rounds. We’ve made it clear that we find this part of the competition to be rather terrible, and would have no problem at all to see them replaced by knockout rounds, or some other system that doesn’t force an artist to do something that they should not really be forced into doing so early in their singing / reality TV careers.
Regardless of our feeling about it, there is a show to get through Saturday so that we can get to the good stuff, and the video below features a brief tease of what Mike Ward and Emma Jade Garbutt are going to be doing while commencing vocal warfare against each other on Team Danny O’Donoghue.
The first thing that is done correctly here is rather simple: The song choice. “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac is one of the greatest songs created, and something that should be deeply cherished by many. Sadly, we don’t really get much of that feeling from watching the video. The vocals are a little all over the place, and while it may come together in the end, the video doesn’t run long enough to really know.
The one thing that “The Voice” UK really has going for it this weekend is that “Britain’s Got Talent” does not run into Sunday, meaning that there is luckily no direct competition for a change. Will that translate into ratings? Time will tell.
