ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 6 spoilers: Seamus Dever on future plots for Ryan, Esposito

Are you ready to see at least a few different things take place on “Castle” season 6? Well, let’s just say that this time around, Castle and Beckett may let even more of their screen time potentially be balanced out with some of the other characters.

In season 5, there was an opportunity to see at least one episode each focusing almost entirely on what Ryan and Esposito were doing in terms of individual cases  as well as their back stories and based on what Seamus Dever, the master of all things going-to-the-sports-bar-with-Esposito, had to say to Wetpaint, it seems like even more balance for the cast as a whole is coming up:

“The sixth season, heading into that, I was told the show is going to be a little bit more ensemble oriented. God knows they’ve given Jon and I a lot more to do so we’ll see if it’s headed in that direction because it’s a lot of fun when those episodes happen.”

From this standpoint as a longtime viewer, what we’d personally like to see is for the Ryan / Esposito arcs to take place over multiple episodes, and be something more than just their personal relationships. We don’t know, unfortunately, if this would happen, based largely on the notion that having long-term story arcs is not exactly good when it comes to syndication, where viewers want to see something that works within the context of just an hour. There has to be a way to do it, though, since the show has managed to give Castle and Beckett plot lines that carry through the season … even while working on cases.
