‘Doctor Who’ season 7 finale spoilers: The Doctor’s greatest secret?

The Doctor ClaraWe feel the need to start off this “Doctor Who” season 7 piece with at least a small amount of recognition. We are well aware of the fact that the finale “The Name of the Doctor” was mistakenly released to some Americans a little bit earlier than expected, and for those who have not been so lucky as to have seen it, don’t give yourself too much permission to carry around a sad face, because there are still plenty of reasons to be excited!

For one, this has all of the makings to be one of the finest finales yet so long as you can avoid the spoilers. There is a mystery, and identifiable villain to follow up the Cybermen, and yet another opportunity for the Impossible Girl that is Clara to somehow save the day. Of course, in order to do so she has to make The Doctor agreeable to do something that he is not particularly keen on: Travel within the deepest chambers of his own timeline to uncover a secret.

In case you have somehow missed out on the official description for the hour (titled “The Name of the Doctor”), we have it for you below via the BBC:

“Clara is summoned to an impossible conference call, alerting her that the deadly Whisper Men are closing in on Vastra, Jenny and Strax. Someone is kidnapping [all of the Doctor’s friends], leading him toward the one place in all of time and space that he should never go. It’s a deadly trap that threatens to unravel his past, present and future.”

Meanwhile, the American promo for the episode differs slightly from the one released by BBC One in the UK over the weekend, and includes a few new fascinating story bits into how this all will shake out. In watching them both, there is one very easy conclusion to draw: Life without The Doctor and his sense of whimsy over the next several months is going to be a sad thought, indeed.
