ABC’s ‘Scandal’ finale spoilers: Kerry Washington promises ‘shock’ to end season 2

There’s a lot to be happy about right now as a “Scandal” fan: Your show actually beat “Grey’s Anatomy” in the ratings Thursday night, your show was just renewed for a third season, Olivia Pope has turned white into something that extends as a fashion accessory year-round (take that, Labor Day!), and the finale is coming up. Oh, and there is also renewed hope that Olivia and Fitz, arguably the #1 couple on TV that we’re probably not supposed to root for morally but do anyway, will work things out.

We do get that there may be a ho-hum mood to the idea that there are no new episodes until the fall following Thursday night, but how’s this little quote from Kerry Washington to get you excited again? Just check out what the scene-stealer and lover of white hats said to the Associated Press about what may make you fall off your coach and/or crumble into a pile of “OMGs” and tears:

“I can tell you that, at the season finale, people were gasping and screaming at the table read … (There was) crying and laughing, and we were shocked to the core — to the core!”

Now, we are going to take part in a little exercise known as “finale preparation.” Start by taking a few deep breaths. Ready? Okay, Now start chanting to yourself “there will be a cliffhanger,” and “waiting can be a good thing.” If you do this, we promise that you will feel more relaxed during the summer months … or you’ll go insane, start showing up at work dressed in all white, and trying to make out with anyone in your workplace in a position of power. Metaphor’s not perfect, but close enough.
