Fox orders pilots featuring Greg Kinnear, ‘Fringe’ team, and ‘Sleepy Hollow’

FoxWhen it comes to Fox’s drama pilots for this current season, they had strictly a 50% success rate. They had two, and while “The Mob Doctor” was a gigantic miss, “The Following” was almost as close to a smash as you can have on network TV these days.

With the two-hour comedy block faring poorly this year and with a need for new series on both Monday and Friday nights, it certainly makes sense that the network would pick up some slack somewhere. Prior to their upfront presentation, the following four shows were all ordered.

“Rake” – The remake of an Australian series stars Greg Kinnear as a criminal defense attorney named Keegan Joye, whose biggest case may just be solving himself. Just for the brilliant and underrated Kinnear alone, this is worth checking out.

“Almost Human” – Meanwhile, seeing “Fringe” showrunner J.H. Wyman with J.J. Abrams again is enough here. The premise is something we’re still a little unsure about: A futuristic cop show of sorts featuring an android-hating human and his emotional robot partner. (Anyone remember “Mac and Cheese” from “Friends”? sounds familiar.)

“Gang Related” – A show basically about police and rogue gang members looking to take organizations down from within. Ramon Rodriguez and RZA lead the cast, but we don’t really think the needle is pointing up here for this show.

“Sleepy Hollow” – Based on premise alone, this may be the most intriguing. This is a show featuring the revival of Ichabod Crane two-plus centuries after his first heroic act, that way he can help to solve the problems of a modern world that is inching ever closer to destruction. We like ambition, and the name alone should draw viewers.

We are starting to see the beginning of pilot pickup season: This news comes a day after reports hit the web that CBS was officially picking up the Chuck Lorre comedy “Mom” starring Anna Faris.
