‘American Horror Story: Coven’ spoilers: Gabourey Sidibe in the dark on story

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the power of Ryan Murphy: He can convince you to sign on for a show even if you know next to nothing about it, and still make you excited every step of the way.

While we are assuming that Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates may at least know a few assorted details about “American Horror Story: Coven,” one of the show’s newest additions is really making it clear just how little she actually knows about the story at the moment. Speaking in a new interview with E! News, Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe (“Precious”) admitted that when it comes to the story for the upcoming season (which will likely premiere on FX in October), she is completely and totally in the dark, saying “I know nothing … I hope I don’t die first.”

Sidibe has yet to see a script for the show, though we’re not entirely confident that many other members of the cast have seen a script either. Production on the new season is starting very soon, and the writers room is still hard at work trying to make sure that there is enough story in place that gives the actors a sense as to who their characters are, and just what the stakes are that they are encountering along their emotional journey. One of the biggest thrills that comes with being on a show like this is that every season, you have an opportunity to come on board and be someone completely and totally new. However, at the same time this could be seen as one of the biggest drawbacks from the standpoint of preparation.
