‘Bates Motel’ episode 7 preview: The first guest arrives

Considering that we are talking about a series here named “Bates Motel,” it only seems appropriate in many ways that we would be able to eventually write about the motel getting an actual guest for a change. Luckily, that appears to be happening during Monday night’s new episode “The Man in Number 9.” Of course, it should be expected at this point that this is a guest that may not be entirely who he presents himself to be.

Before we dive deeper into anything, let’s start things off here by sharing the official synopsis for the hour straight from A&E:

“As The Bates Motel welcomes its first guest, Norman learns that popular girls come with many complications.”

The one concurrent theme that has played out throughout the show’s first season is the attempt to find some sort of harmony in the Norman / Norma relationship, but the problem is that the two seem to be progressively pushed further and further apart thanks to differing ideologies. At the same time, the two have a common bond in that they are really the only people that they other one truly has, and we expect to see this sort of mother / son bond to boomerang back for the season as a whole comes to a close. There are only a few episodes left before the season ends for the year, and thus the writers will need to start setting up a situation that leads directly into the finale.
