‘Supernatural’ season 8 finale spoilers: The balance between finality and ambiguity
There are only three episodes left on “Supernatural” season 8, and when you consider all of the story that is still left to tell, it is pretty easy to realize that executive producer Jeremy Carver still has his work cut out for him. He has to figure out a way to continue the angel tablet story in a way that makes some sense, and also give us more insight into Sam’s trials, how Castiel will factor into next season in a more prominent role, and just what sort of role we can expect from Metatron (who will be appearing for the first time on Wednesday).
However, don’t expect there to be any formal resolution to every plot. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Jeremy Carver gave a pretty hilarious answer on the subject of balancing out giving answers and raising new questions:
“I think you owe your fans and your audience a sense of resolution and while we know we’re coming back, we’re leaving certain things open … That’s sort of a generic way of saying s**t gets resolved and s**t gets cliffhanged.”
There are still not too many details released about this episode just yet, though you can expect to see some callbacks to earlier this season. For example, the Men of Letters story will resurface following its appearance earlier this season. Not only that, but Abaddon will also be somehow turning up despite the horrific end that she came to during “As Time Goes By.”
What sort of ending do you prefer to wrap up a season of a show, and do you think that “Supernatural” is primed for a fantastic final three episodes of the season? If you want to watch a video preview for Wednesday’s episode, be sure to head on over to the link here.

I’ve loved this season, which came as a surprise after the last two,
both of which I found extremely boring. It has been wonderful to see all
three members of team free will get character development, especially
Dean, who has finally started doing things he wants to do instead of
what John would have wanted him to. I would be concerned over his status
in the myth arc, but not only has Dean’s emotional journey this season
been incredible, he is the main POV character of the series, and
personally I am much more invested in the characters’ emotional journey
than the physical one.
Sam’s struggle with the trials has been
interesting to watch, but I think it would have worked better if it
hadn’t been pushed into such few episodes. In my opinion there could
have been much less fillers and more myth arc episodes, letting the
viewers better into Sam’s headspace in the process. Also, his resolve to
stop hunting/to find a compromise between that and “apple pie life” is
something I hope he sticks to until the end of the series, because I
hope all three main characters(yes, I count Cas as one) get their happy
ending.
Cas, for his part, has had the most stable arc for years,
with his struggles against depression and heaven’s control. I’m also
eager to see not whether, but how exactly he will choose humanity over
heaven. My bet is on him falling, which would be an easy way for the
writers to include him in more episodes next season. I also love the way
his personal journey has been connected to the myth arc, whereas in
season 7 it felt hurriedly tacked on.
This season has also included much more guest stars than the previous, a change that has freshened up the show in a way that was sorely lacking before. More characters is always a plus. In conclusion, with this season’s main plot getting its resolution and more seeds being planted for the ones to come, I can honestly say I can’t wait to see the remaining episodes of season gr8.

I’m going to be the bitter fan here woefully noting that there’s something for Sam here, something for Cas, and yet nothing for Dean. Again. *sigh*

Is there ever? I love Sam but it would be ever so nice if Carver and the rest of the SPN team believed Dean was at least a fraction as important as they think Sam is and started to care about him as well. But I’ve given up hope that they ever will.
