2013 Billboard Music Awards: Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, fun. lead nominations
On May 19 on ABC, we are going to see the latest chapter of the Billboard Music Awards, and based on the nominations thus far, it looks as though we are going to be in for a predictable evening of entertainment.
The leading nominees for the show (which is to be hosted this year by former “30 Rock” star Tracy Morgan) include Fun., Maroon 5, and Taylor Swift, who have all scored a whopping 11 nominations each for some of their most-recent releases. Meanwhile, some of the other notable artists with nods include Rihanna (ten), Carly Rae Jepsen (nine), and One Direction (eight). Around the time that the awards ceremony was actually held last year, One Direction and Carly Rae were really just starting to tear their way up the music charts with their singles.
Some of the scheduled performers right now include Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, and a sensation from the Grammy Awards (and “Saturday Night Live”) in Miguel.
At this point, the only major appeal of these music awards shows is seeing what sort of creative performances people can come up with. After all, there are so many of these shows now that all of the winners are typically pretty similar, and it is harder to get excited about seeing (insert random star here) get excited about winning their millionth trophy. Hopefully, there will be some new ways to mix things up here that we are not even thinking about right now.
If you want to check out the full list of nominees, you can do so here. What do you think about the nominees this year, and are you looking forward to checking out the show in full? If you want to also see the winners from last year’s ABC telecast, you can do so over at this link.
