‘Mad Men’ season 6 spoilers: Is Don Draper off his game?
When it comes to his romantic life, the actions of one Don Draper on “Mad Men” likely give the question in this article’s title a very specific answer. However, on this occasion we’re more interested in figuring out whether or not the character is going to end up continuing to hit its stride when it comes to his professional career.
Jon Hamm’s character has been long known for creative ways of thinking, and over the course of the show’s run we have seen a variety of different results to his ideas. Unfortunately for him, Don’s premise for a Royal Hawaiian campaign was not exactly well-received; as a matter of fact, the hotel executives though that it was representative of someone trying to drown themselves in the ocean.
So are we supposed to interpret Don’s pitch as something brilliant, or something that should be openly mocked and ridiculed? The joy of this show is that the interpretation really depends on the person; however, executive producer Matthew Weiner was quick to share his perspective as a part of a new interview with TV Guide:
“People have some expectation that Don is going to be left behind — that he’s some kind of relic … I feel like the society is becoming more like Don and he’s never been more in touch with what’s going on.”
Well, at least Don seems to have figured out the career portion of his life; now, he probably needs to get a handle on his personal life and start making some decisions instead of just accepting that he is broken.
Did you actually like Don’s pitch to the Royal Hawaiian in the premiere, and do you think it is possible that he will convince them to go along with some of his ideas? If you want to watch a “promo” for Sunday night’s new episode, you can do so over at the link here.
