NBC renews ‘Last Call with Carson Daly’ day after Alec Baldwin hosting rumors

NBCWell, so much for the idea that Alec Baldwin was going to take over the timeslot at NBC currently occupied by Carson Daly; if the “30 Rock” star comes on at all, he is either going to have to get a different timeslot or shove the “Voice” host further down the schedule.

In a statement on Wednesday, the network announced that they have renewed “Last Call with Carson Daly” for another season, which we do think is a good thing based on the changes that have been made to the show. Daly’s much more effective as an interviewer in more intimate settings like bars and restaurants, and the show serves as a platform for young bands that are trying to make it in the business in a way other than on a singing competition.

In a statement, here is what Daly himself had to say about the news:

“I’m extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished with Last Call … I love coming to work every day and having the opportunity to collaborate with this incredible team. We are always looking to give viewers something new and fresh that they can’t find anywhere else on television. I’m grateful to have the chance to continue doing what I love the most.”

As for Baldwin, while he would be very good on TV, there is a part of us that hopes he continues to focus on acting and his “Here’s the Thing” podcast instead, given that he has more time to fully interview his guests there than he would on this sort of format. Plus, Carson’s best work typically comes as a part of “Last Call.”
