NBC’s ‘Community’ season 4 spoilers: New promo encourages live viewing
Apparently, NBC is ready to take a page from “Happy Endings.” They know that the ratings for “Community” are pretty low, and that in order to ensure that another season is ordered, they need people to actually watch this live rather than just setting their DVRs.
With all of this in mind, we present to you the promo below for “History of Dance,” the upcoming eighth episode of season 4 airing on the network Thursday night. While there is a little bit of footage in here if Chang busting out some of his DJ skills, the real point of this ad seems to be to actually entice people to actually watch the show live, rather than recording it or actually watching online.
So is this a way for the network to cover their tracks? We think so. In the event that they do cancel “Community,” making promos like this does give them a little bit more power to say after the fact that they did everything that they could in order to save the show, and they cannot be put fully at fault for a decision made by the viewers at home to not want to watch the show when it is actually on.
With all of this being said, “Happy Endings” never really had a chance at being renewed when they aired a similar commercial, while “Community” still has a reasonable shot, considering the fact that “The Office” is ending,” “30 Rock” is over, “1600 Penn” is for sure getting canceled, and it’s not looking too good for “Whitney.”
What do you think about this promo, and do you think that this sort of promotional strategy is going to really work to get “Community” another season? If you want to see some more scoop on an upcoming guest star, you can do so over at the link here.
