Conan O’Brien wishes Jimmy Fallon well on ‘Tonight Show’ gig (video)

ConanAfter we heard from Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon Wednesday night about the newest line of changes at “The Tonight Show” starting next year, there was really only one person left that everyone in America had some sort of vested interest in hearing from : Conan O’Brien. Why him? The answer is pretty simple, since he was the last person who made an attempt at trying to replace Jay Leno, and we all know that this didn’t end particularly well (though we personally still blame “The Jay Leno Show” for this much more than we do anything that Conan actually did).

So how did Conan respond to the news that someone else in Fallon was getting the chance to succeed Jay? While it would have been very easy for him to be cynical about the hire and partaken in some more NBC-bashing, the comedian instead chose to be humble and soft-spoken. He congratulated Jimmy on the gig, said that it was a “really fun” job, and said that he felt as though he would be very good at it.

Fallon is also going to get a pretty substantial way in which to launch his new show, as new episodes are going to officially kick off during the winter Olympics next year. This is a time when there are viewers flooding to NBC, and they can try to capitalize on this to make the new “Tonight Show” from New York City into something that is must-watch TV from the get-go.

The only questions that remain now are who will host the new “Late Night” (Seth Meyers is the favorite), and where it will be set. While New York seems to be Seth’s familiar hangout, we don’t know if NBC wants to have both of its late-night shows set in the same city.

What do you think of how Conan handled this? If you want to read some more of what Jay and Jimmy had to say about this entire bit of drama, you can do so by heading on over to the link here.
