‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Exec hypes up Katherine’s return

Nina DobrevUsually when you have an episode of a hit show airing in late March, it is typically not one meant to be a standout. We don’t mean this to necessarily be disparaging, but typically, the hours that contain the largest plot twists and turns are those that end up airing in the February or May sweeps.

However, “The Vampire Diaries” is no ordinary show, and this is one willing to throw surprises in no matter where it is in the season. With that in mind, Thursday night’s “American Gothic” is set to have all sorts of interesting twists and turns; not only are we going to be seeing the return of Daniel Gillies’ Elijah, but Katherine is also going to be really in the mix again courtesy of Elena and Rebekah arriving at her hideout spot: a small Pennsylvania town.

Just in case you wanted more evidence that this episode really is a landmark, all you have to do is check out the latest Twitter message courtesy of show executive producer Julie Plec:

“Not to completely discount my musings about expectations, but this Thursday’s TVD is in my top ten all time faves. #theb**chisback.”

There is also one other interesting development that has not been brought up yet: there are only a couple of episodes left until the backdoor pilot for “The Originals,” which means that there is going to be something in between this episode and the ones ahead that convinces Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah to head our to New Orleans. When you remember just how invested Joseph Morgan’s character is in particular to Mystic Falls, you know that this has to be a big thing.
