Ratings: NBC scores big with ‘The Voice’ season 4 premiere, ‘Revolution’s’ return
At the moment, it must be good to be NBC. For the first time since the start of the spring season, the network actually has something worth celebrating when it comes to their programming: the performance of their new shows Monday night.
First of all, who saw “The Voice” beating “American Idol” into next week? With its 4.7 rating, this is now easily the top-rated show not named “The Big Bang Theory” on the air, and it bodes well for the future performance of both Shakira and Usher as coaches. Considering that last season also held on to its ratings throughout most of the season (and that was with it only premiering to a 4.2), this bodes well when it comes to the network’s hopes to really have a hit that stands the test of time throughout the spring.
While anyone could have seen the ratings drops across the board coming for some of the other shows (including “Dancing with the Stars” sliding all the way down to a 2.3 following last week’s strong showing), “Revolution” has to be rather pleased with getting a 2.7 boosted largely by its lead-in. While this may be down slightly from the fall finale in November, it could have been so much worse considering the long time in which it was off the air. It also certainly validates the network’s decision to wait, as we saw how badly “Go On” and “The New Normal” failed without this kind of support.
What do you think of the numbers for these two shows, and do you imagine that they will help NBC get back to some of their old winning ways? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and you can read our full review of “The Voice” premiere over at the link here.
