‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 6: Now with extra DVR domination

Big Bang TheoryOver the past couple of weeks, we’ve found great enjoyment in tracking just how much of a ratings machine that “The Big Bang Theory” has become on CBS. We already know that it is the most-watched comedy on television, and on weeks when there is no competition from “Modern Family,” it is even more interesting to see just how much of a force that it is when you factor in DVR viewing.

In new numbers made available today by TVbythenumbers, the show’s March 7 episode rose up from a 5.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic up to a 7.5, which is a pretty incredible increase of 34% given how high the ratings were to begin with. While we have seen the show draw higher ratings before with DVR numbers figured in (think above an 8.0), the divide between this show and others for the week of March 4 is pretty incredible.

Here’s another interesting way to look at it. With DVR numbers included, the second-strongest show for this week was “Two and a Half Men” with a 4.8, and that uses “The Big Bang Theory” as a lead-in. Following that, it was “NCIS” with a 4.5. The adventures of Sheldon Cooper have managed a lead of 2.5 in the demo (which is around 3 million viewers in this age range) for the week, and that is more viewers in total than a good many shows have combined. Just as such shows as “Blue Bloods” and “Surburgatory,” which couldn’t even manage a 2.5 even after DVR figures were calculated in.

On Thursday night, the show will have another opportunity to prove its ratings might with “The Tenure Turbulence,” an episode that features Sheldon, Leonard, and Raj all fighting vigorously to receive tenure at the university.

What do you think about these numbers? If you want to read more about Bob Newhart’s upcoming guest-starring appearance on the show, you can do so here.
