ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 5 spoilers: Jon Huertas talks new angle to Ryan story

On Monday night’s new episode of “Castle,” we are going to see a story that plunges Ryan first and foremost into the forefront, as he tries to go undercover in order to infiltrate an Irish gang on Staten Island. While we have heard a little bit already on just what sort of impact this plot will have on this character (and you can read more about it over here), what we have not heard of just yet is how this will end up causing a major impact on Ryan’s longtime partner on the force in Esposito.

So what does Jon Huertas have to say about this? Speaking as a part of a new interview with Zap2It, the actor explained that thanks to Ryan putting himself in a very dangerous position, and needing to do it in order to help the NYPD solve a case, he is left in a position where there is literally nothing he can do to help someone he cares about:

“It’s probably one of the most helpless times in Esposito’s life … You’re going to see a vulnerable side to Esposito when it comes to Ryan.”

While the Ryan / Esposito friendship is not often discussed in every episode, we have slowly and surely seen a rather interesting arc play out between the two this season. It started with the shocking acts last season that caused the two parties to be at odds for some time, but these fortunes were soon reversed a few weeks into the new season. Esposito also had a spotlight episode earlier this season, where we learned more about his past as a troubled youth.
