‘The X Factor’ USA notes: Carly Rose Sonenclar, Fifth Harmony, Emblem3
We just finished up talking about some of what is going on over on “The X Factor” UK, so with that in mind, why not take a jump back to the United States for some stories breaking pertaining to the cast of the American show?
Let’s start things off with the big news coming from Los Angeles: Fifth Harmony had a chance to attend the Kids Choice Awards! You can see a photo of the girl group on the traditionally-orange carpet (which was actually purple this year) by heading on over to their official Instagram page. While the ladies did not perform or play a significant role in the broadcast, this was a smart opportunity for them to connect with some young fans, network, and be seen in a place that also features the likes of Katy Perry, Selena Gomez, Adam Sandler, and many more.
Vote for Carly – Since Carly Rose Sonenclar recently shared a link towards a new competition (on Ryan Seacrest’s official site) all about the best Beyonce cover in recent memory, we thought we’d do the same. Her take on “If I Were a Boy” is listed there, and you can vote just by clicking here.
While there’s no real prize for the winner other than the title, these sort of polls are a great way for scouts, managers, labels, and the like to know the true measure of someone’s fan following. If there are people who are willing to vote for you frequently on a poll, there will also be people willing to go and pick up your album down the road.
Emblem3 talk East Coast trip – The boys of Emblem3 are currently in the process of wrapping up a series of shows in the east coast and midwest regions of the country, and they took to their blog this weekend to share some of their experiences.
You can read all of it here, as this is jump a sample of what the boys wrote:
“We’re just two [shows] in to our East Coast tour and we can pretty much tell you this is one of the coolest things any of us have ever done. The shows in Philadelphia and New York City the past two days have been some of our best yet – and every single one of our fans we’ve met has been amazing. You guys are seriously the best. Who else would wait outside radio stations and venues in the freezing cold just to hang out with us? Emblems, that’s who.”
If you do want to read some of those “X Factor” UK notes (which include work on James Arthur along with Nicole Scherzinger), you can do so over at the link here.

Sally dear, please don’t twist my words. Music has several components any of which can make music sound mediocre. There are the lyrics, arrangement, vocals, and instruments for starters. I was speaking in generalities and never outed any artist as singing “crappy music”. What I tried to convey based on your own assertion was regardless whether the music is mediocre or great, Emblem3 or any other act comprised of “young good looking male artists” will always have a fan base of young teen girls to keep them going. The truth is, most people hear with their ears not there eyes so to be HUGE in the Industry depends more on just being a young good looking male artist. That is assuming your definition of HUGE is topping the Billboard charts (record sales), and winning a coveted Grammy (Industry). If your definition of HUGE is just in ticket sales, then I suppose all that is required is a large enough fan base of teen girls idolizing their “young good looking male artists”. I love music and listen to all types with an open mind and since everyone hears and feels music differently, just leave it up to the public to decide. Try it.

Danni, have you noticed that everyone in the music industry really only cares about making money? Guess what what you call “crappy music”, is the most sold music today! Teen girls are more powerful than they look! There has been a pattern of the most successful popular artists usually are attractive males. And are you saying thy Fifth Harmony and Carly shouldn’t be signed to SYCO because most of their artists sing “crappy music”. So the same will happen to them. And also everyone knows that Fifth Harmony are a girl version of One Direction, but won’t nearly be as successful. In the music industry male artists are more popular than female artists. And don’t say a thing about Taylor Swift she sings “crappy music” now too, and is seen as the problem in her many failed relationships.

Nearly everything you just stated is your opinion and a biased one at that. You’re obviously a huge Dinah fan (notice I didn’t say 5H fan) but to put down every other singer, including Dinah’s sisters, is pretty pathetic. The fact is Dinah, Camila, Lauren, Ally, and Normani all failed to make it as solo artists and for what reasons we may never know but based on each of their bios I’d say not making it had more to do with their inexperience not their vocal talents. One of the girls by her own admission had never sung on a stage or in front of strangers before the auditions. You can’t get any more inexperienced than that. Simon said it best after 5H’s last Finals performance. “You are not a group, you are five great singers and its really important to remember that” Its that, to answer Britney’s question, which separates them from the rest and makes them special. Dinah is 1/5 and no more special than the other four. View their covers and it becomes clear. Dinah selected ‘Thinkin Bout You’, took the lead and nailed it! Lauren a huge Lana Del Rey fan, chose ‘American’, took the lead and smashed it. Camila, a huge fan of Ed Sheeran chose ‘Lego House’, took the lead and killed!

Is Carly a good singer? Absolutely but the way people go on an on about her you would think she is the second coming of Whitney or Christina Aguilera(vocally) which she isn’t. We’re she 2 years older i don’t think people would be jizzing themselves over her. Best singer from season 2? Dinah Jane from 5H. She is a cross between Mariah and Beyonce, has unbelievable range and can do things with her voice none of tr other contestants could do. Before people start saying of she was so good she would have made it as a solo artist, Simon admitted that had she not forgotten her lyrics he would have made it. Besides we all know Simon was always on the hunt for a female group.

Not really sure what your measurement of success is but frankly if an artist can make a decent living, living their dreams, doing what they love doing, they’re already a success. The fact is most of your assertions are baseless. First, there are many lanes in the music industry with cross-overs. Look at Taylor Swift. Carly is going to do just fine whether you or your young friends like her or not. As for Fifth Harmony, they’re my fascination. The fact is, of all the top 4 season 2 acts, their cyber fan base is growing at the fastest rate post X-factor. A girl group where all members have phenomenal vocals and diverse sounds is very rare, yet because of that they remain an enigma. I think their original music is going to surprise a lot of people. I’ve never bench marked Tate’s cyber fan base because his demographics are completely different than the other acts. Just look at his YouTube views and yet he won the top prize. That said, spend some time on Tate’s official twitter and Instagram and you’ll see that he’s doing just fine in his own lane. If your last comments were true then it stands to reason the artists on Billboard’s top 100 and the Grammy winners would be predominantly good looking male artists. No, I’m afraid what you’re referring to is that some teen girls will buy mediocre or crappy music so long as it’s performed by young good looking male artists. That is in fact true for Emblem3 regardless whether their new music is great or mediocre. To their credit Emblem3 worked with some really great people so I’m hoping the album is great. We’ll see…

Emblem3 are going to be HUGE! They have already done some sold out shows, been in the studios since early January, their first single is coming out soon! And they will start working on a music video! Their album is expected to come out in Spring 2013! I have never liked Carly, and I know a lot of other teen girls that don’t like her either. She doesn’t sing pop, so I think that’s why she hasn’t been active the music industry. I feel like the record company will try to change her, like making her change her look, making her sing pop songs, and changing her voice. I think she would make a great Broadway singer, but not a singer in the music industry. Fifth Harmony I think will be like Little Mix, not very famous. And of course Tate Stevens won’t become successful, hardly any winners do. I know a lot of people that will buy Emblem3’s album, but not anyone else’s. Most teen girls like young good looking male artists more than any other artists. This is a fact, most music brought today is by teen girls.
Unfortunate

This is the exact opposite now. Carly was heralded as the best voice in the X Factor (which by all means is true), but that in and of itself doesn’t mean she can make successful music. Unless she could write her own lyrics, she’ll only remain as a vestige of what was the best young voice in X Factor history.
If history repeats itself, she will end up like Melanie Amaro. Let’s learn from history, and hope that Carly bring things up and avoids releasing a single that is not her style.
The sad thing is that I stopped voting for Carly because of my hatred for the large majority of the infested cesspool known as Carly fans (the ones who went to other contestants’ videos and talk **** about them), but I support her more than they do. Sad.
Good luck to Carly, and all of you so called Carly fans better do your part and support her.

No matter what anyone says they deserve this and they dont geta chance because they are judged by their cover. Well they will change the world with Team Inspire. Thats priority one for them . Not money. And I have been an emblemsince the start. Saw them in NJ this weekend. It was perfect….. Emblem3 will go far and i really feel that they are just purely amazing and have helped me and tons of others in so many ways. Dont judge them by their looks.

Not looking for a fight either Paul but as far as 5H “tightening up their harmonies” they’ve never had a problem with harmonies, more of having control over their own music. 5H arrived in LA Feb 14th and began recording Feb 16th. Both the Lana Del Rey and Ed Sheeran covers were recorded on Feb 18th. If anything, after being apart for over a month you would expect the opposite of their harmonies. Each one of the girls selected a cover of their favorite artist or artists. We’ve had 3 so far and expect the next Tuesday. Carly and 5H, heard the same. Think their management is hoping to put together a summer tour.

Just heard we can probably expect Fifth Harmony’s single before this summer! I’m not really a fan of E3, but.I loved Carly’s new cover. Hope her official. signing is announced soon!

Danni………..Relax, I was not looking for a fight with you , but I will repeat myself if I feel like it,,,,mind your manners! I actually was not even replying to you, just stating facts.
I wish them all great success and I am happy E3 sold out some of its nights, you do know the NY venue only has 3000 seats which is very small ,house of blues in Chicago also very small so it is not that big a deal. I think FH has grown dramatically since XF and they tightened up their harmony. sorry to say I do not like E3 even a little bit and I don’t see any real talent, not my taste at all…to each his own!
have a nice night….God Bless

Paul, citing YouTube views occurring many many months ago is pretty meaningless. If you wanted to tell us that post X-Factor total views had gone up another 50 mil or so, well that would mean something. Anyway, my comments were in response to Claire’s not yours so no need to repeat yourself. But, since you like stats here’s data showing neither Carly or 5H have lost any steam post X-Factor, and this with neither having released any new music yet.
Dec 20th – Carly – Facebook: 295,000 – Twitter: 523,943
Dec 20th – Fifth Harmony – Facebook: 66,162 – Twitter: 233,436
Mar 24th – Carly – Facebook: 445,000 – Twitter: 787,811
Mar 24th – Fifth Harmony – Facebook: 139,369 – Twitter: 491,735
Anyone following emblem3 know they’re selling out venues within minutes of tickets becoming available and the media has been asking when 5H will begin touring, there is already a demand for that. As I said, ALL these acts have very bright futures ahead, including Diamond and Bea. This is not a competition to see who is first, second or third, that ended months ago. And none of these acts are even in the same lanes so there’s really no professional overlap. I’m excited and happy for all of them and wish them all the best.
Benzir, Carly already mentioned on Disney Radio SYCO signed her, just hasn’t been officially announced. 5H signed the night of the finals but that wasn’t made official until Jan 17th. SYCO knows what they’re doing, be patient. :)

Carly started recording weeks before 5H reunited so it wouldn’t surprise me if her Album, or a single releases first. For one thing, as with Emblem3, she was already an established artist and had music out there. 5H started from a null position. As for covers, 5H released their latest 4 days ago and it already has over 700,000 views, nearly double Emblem3 and Carly’s latest covers combined and their new channel has 57000 subscribers in less than a months time. It will be very interesting to see how it all plays out this year but one thing is certain, all these acts have bright futures.

I think Carly Coming from a well to do family who has given her , vocal , piano and dance lessons and still is are taking their time as they do not need to rush in. Simom is a business man who like we said takes the quick money with medium talented pop groups and runs, Carly will have a lifelong career and become another multi- faceted performer like Striesand.

Why is simon trying to hide carly away? Never mentions her in the press or on social media. Hasn’t announced her signing officially. Is it because she’s not like emblem 3 and fifth harmony and isn’t a pop act that’ll sell a couple of million records over two years and then burn out until the next big thing comes along? is it because carly can have longevity and he can’t rush her and must take time to develop/nurture her talent? all simon cares about is making money as quickly as possible. which is why leona lewis is so neglected these days and yet she is 100 times more special than one direction could ever be. carly should just take a meeting with RCA, Columbia or Epic without Syco’s involvement. Or better yet go to Island/Def Jam. Surely having the massive fan base and social media presence she does and one of the biggest talent agencies in the world supporting her she can get meetings with other labels.

Yes, I actually feel kind of bad for Carly! I know 5H is my favorite but I’m also a huge fan of Carly. Why is it taking so long for them to find a joint label? Something just doesn’t seem right and the worst thing about it is; who knows when she will release an album. Most likely sometime in 2014. Fifth Harmony has been in the studio almost everyday working 14 hour workdays since Feb. 19, and their album isn’t due until the Fall.

I think we are all in for a surprise, Carly is in the studio recording her album…maybe her family and managers have ideas they are holding back for some reason. as for youtube views, Carly has over 165 million overall which is more than E3, FH and Tate combined, in fact just the 2 versions of her audition is more than any others totals, it is getting a bit weird but she will the biggest of them all. As for Simon the best carly could do is run from him, he likes a lot of acts all to make him a few million each doing sugar coated pop and fills his bank account, Carly wtll be huge in Music, films and so on like Streisand !

Wow. Emblem 3 has a vevo and surpassed Carly’s bruno mars cover in terms of viewers and it was released a day after carly’s. Emblem 3 doing concerts. Fifth Harmony and Diamond White at the kids choice awards. Beatrice signed to a recording contract and moving to LA..where’s carly rose? Simon and the x factor rarely ever mention her either. It’s odd. And a slap. Maybe carly should sign with another label since Simon’s priorities are with groups. I hope Carly isn’t stuck performing at business or charity events in NY all year. She needs to go to L.A.
