‘Saturday Night Live’ re-watch: ‘Sopranos Diaries,’ Ray Lewis still help Adam Levine

Saturday Night Live LogoWhile we posted in our “Saturday Night Live” re-watch article from last weekend that Jennifer Lawrence’s episode did not hold up particularly well in repeat viewing, we cannot full say the same thing for the show hosted by Adam Levine (which airs again this weekend). While this was not our favorite show of the season when it first aired (and nor is it our favorite show now), there were at least a few sketches that passed the test of time, and are worth checking out again whether or not you want to watch it live or just check out the clips online.

First of all, we still find the “Sopranos Diaries” sketch to be a pretty brilliant send-up of the way in which The CW messed with the “Sex and the City” franchise with “The Carrie Diaries,” and while it may not be nearly as funny after the latest adventures of Carrie Bradshaw are canceled (which will probably happen a little later this spring), it still works now. Thank Bobby Moynihan for this; or, just thank Bobby Moynihan for so much of what the show does right.

In addition, we also still have to point out the brilliance that was Kenan Thompson as Ray Lewis during “Weekend Update.” This is a great example of how you can have a bit that is dated in a particular period of time, but still have it work by just putting in great jokes. It’s one of Kenan’s better impressions, and the writers did a great job of capturing the NFL star’s intensity, spirituality, and that feeling that his head is going to spontaneously explode at any given moment.

You can check out both of these segments in the full episode below, though we may understand your temptation the rest of the show. (It’s really not too good, as Adam Levine is way better as the cool frontman of a rock band.)

If you want to see who is going to be hosting some editions of “SNL” a little later this season, you can do so over at the link here.
