ABC Family renews ‘Baby Daddy’ for season 3 … before season 2 even premieres
ABC Family is certainly showing that they have plenty of confidence in their multi-camera series “Baby Daddy.” Why? Even though the show, which features the likes of Jean-Luc Bilodeau and Chelsea Kane, is not going to premiere season 2 until May 29, the network has already decided to give them show a third-season renewal in order for it to get a jump on the story ahead. While we have seen such a move taken for some premium cable shows over the years (with Starz and “Boss” being one example of this), it is pretty rare to see a cable show within its first few years actually get this sort of love.
So what’s the reason why? In a statement, network president Michael Riley makes it very clear that the combination of the show’s first-season success along with the strong creative direction were enough to make him interested in pulling the trigger:
“Baby Daddy was an immediate success when it launched. Based on the creative strength we saw during production on Season 2, and how the episodes, storylines and characters are developing, we decided to double down on this hit show and keep it in production for additional episodes.”
This is certainly very good news for the ABC Family comedy lineup, which also includes the popular “Melissa & Joey,” as they continue to work to forge an identity as a place for women aged 18-49 to find great programming that fits their needs. “Switched at Birth” and “Pretty Little Liars” are some of the network’s other hits that have flourished over the past several years.
