‘Happy Endings’ season 3: New promo asks fans to ‘save’ show
This is something that you don’t quite see every day: a show actively campaigning to save itself in promos. Then again, can you really be that surprised at all? “Happy Endings” is a show that ABC bigwigs have claimed to love, and it also has a devoted fanbase much in the same way that “Community” does. Unfortunately, neither show may have the numbers right now to justify another season, and the “Happy Endings” may be even worse off in that it is not close enough to the syndication threshold of 88 episodes for that to really matter.
So with all of this in mind, the promo for the show’s March 29 return literally begs you to “save” the show. It may be a smart move to actually inform casual fans that there is something that they actually need to do in order to keep new episodes coming. (We almost wish that at some point, it actually encouraged viewers to watch live.)
While we wish we could say positive things about whether or not this strategy will work, we are in many ways doubtful right now. This is the third timeslot that ABC has tried for the show this year, and this comes after the network aired it on Wednesday nights after “Modern Family” a year ago. Many have blamed the move to Tuesday nights, where it was foolishly placed up against “Go On” and “New Girl,” as one of the primary reasons why it has suffered, and sadly it has not been able to find a way to recover ever since.
What do you think: could a plan like this actually work to keep a show like “Happy Endings” alive, or do you see this more as ABC just doing what they can to give diehard fans an impression that they are doing everything that they can? If you want to see some more news about the move to Friday nights, you can do so here.
