‘Mad Men’: New viral video is (probably) not the season 6 storyline
Who wants to see Don Draper celebrate a little bit of March Madness? Well, you’re certainly not going to be seeing this when “Mad Men” returns to AMC for season 6 next month, but the latest viral video sweeping the TV world certainly paints Jon Hamm’s complicated character into a guy desperate to win one of sports’ greatest betting battles.
The technique that is used to create this video is ultimately one that has been used time and time again in the world of entertainment: splicing a number of video clips together in order to obtain the desired effect. In this case, the goal here is to clearly paint a funny picture all about the likes of Don, Pete Campbell, and everyone else talking about their picks in the college basketball tournament. It’s surprising first of all to see just how many times universities are mentioned here, as are the names of other various terms used in college basketball terminology.
While we could see this sort of video being the sort of thing that really annoys some showrunners, is it really a bad thing at all at the end of the day? Creating videos like these is a way to ensure that people continue to talk about your show even after it wraps up airing for a while, and considering that “Mad Men” has not even started to promote the new season yet, it’s nice to get some advanced buzz and reminders out there as to just how incredible this show really is.
