‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 6, episode 19 review: The truth about Howard’s letter

Big Bang TheoryEver since we first heard of the idea for Thursday night’s “Big Bang Theory” season 6 episode, we knew it was going to be interesting; however, who expected it to be quite like this?

The main story for the week started when Howard held a fancy dinner party, Sheldon found out that his friend had received a letter from his father back when he was 18, but he had purposefully decided to never open it. Sheldon read it, and the rest of the gang immediately pressed him to try and get information all about it. In really doing what they did, Bernadette, Penny, and the rest of the group really did something that was rather selfish in going behind Howard’s back to find out a secret.

Surprisingly, Howard was pretty quick to forgive everyone for what they did, though they came up with an interesting way to have him know, while at the same time not know about who he has and why he left: coming up with a number of possibilities as to what the letter could be. At this point, we were hoping that the show would really leave it at that … and it was ultimately what they did. This way, Howard kept part of his original integrity intact as to why he did not want to read it, and he knew that the odds of her dad saying something nice about him were still there.

Although this episode cast aside the Kate Micucci / Lucy storyline for the time being, we really didn’t mind considering that it was something that provided us with a different tale that helped tie together one of the show’s longest-standing loose ends. It’s interesting that while Leonard, Howard, and Sheldon’s mothers have all played parts on the show before, so little is known about their dads … and this was a nice change.
