‘Mad Men’ season 6 spoilers: Will Don Draper stay with Megan?
There hasn’t been a lot of information about “Mad Men” season 6 floating around, mostly because show runner Matthew Weiner is notorious for keeping any spoilers about the show under lock and key, but in an unusually generous moment, Weiner and “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm revealed just enough about season 6 that helps set the stage for viewers, so they know what to expect this season.
In a new interview with The Huffington Post, Weiner and Hamm discussed some of the loose ends that were left dangling last season and how it might affect things in season 6. Viewers were shocked when SCDP partner Lane Pryce committed suicide at the office over a forged cheque (and serious money troubles) and have been wondering if this was going to have a negative affect on the company going into season 6. Hamm said: “The company has really never been in better shape, so it was kind of a weird juxtaposition of the company rising and still being in this very emotionally difficult place.”
At the end of season 5 we saw Don facing a lot of his own personal demons after Lane’s death, including his guilt over what happened to his brother Adam and it brought Don back to a very self involved place – somewhere he really hadn’t been since he met Megan. While many people didn’t like the introduction of Megan, we really loved her. We felt that before Megan, Don was so private that it made it difficult for the viewers to learn anything about him and after Megan we had a chance to dig deeper into Don and see a side of him that we’ve never seen before. With Megan’s acting career taking flight, Don seemed to move backward and by the end of the last episode we found him sitting alone at a bar with a strange woman asking him if he’s alone. So what’s going to happen with Don and Megan moving forward? Hamm said: “Don is sort of feeling the stress of his own personal life with Megan who’s career is taking off as an actress.”
Weiner agreed saying that Megan’s independence has become a problem for Don. He said: “I jokingly, but not so jokingly said that the story of Don and Megan’s marriage over the course of the season was that Don and Megan are soul mates – they are one person and that person is Don. So when Megan expressed her own independence it became troubling.”
Will Don got back to his old ways and start running around on Megan? Will Megan and Don’s marriage end or can they find a way to make it work?
