‘American Horror Story’ season 3 spoilers: James Cromwell’s return now in doubt

American Horror StoryWhile many of our favorites parts of “American Horror Story: Asylum,” including Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, and Evan Peters, have all confirmed already that they will be back for another year, it is starting to look as though another personal favorite is looking for work somewhere else.

Sources have confirmed that Emmy and Oscar-nominated actor James Cromwell has joined the cast of ABC’s “Betrayal,” which revolves around a young woman who starts an affair with a lawyer representing an extremely powerful family. Cromwell’s character is a ruthless man in Chicago named Terence Karsten, and if we had to guess he is the head of the family we just mentioned. It’s a rule that allows the actor the opportunity to show off some of the terrifying qualities that he brought to the part as Dr. Arthur Arden, but at the same time get rid of some of the perversions that made the character rather uncomfortable to watch.

While there is no word on if this pilot (which in name along sounds like “Revenge”), it could potentially keep Cromwell from playing much of a role at all in the new season of the Ryan Murphy hit (if there is even one for him to play). IT is the same sort of situation that Murphy finds himself in with Dylan McDermott, another one of his favorite actors who is currently signed on for another pilot. Decisions for these new series will be decided in May, and it is at that time that their future on “American Horror Story” could really be decided (as there will be plenty of time to cast them in roles if needed).

What do you think of this casting, and did you love Cromwell’s work on “Asylum” season? If you want to hear some more of what McDermott had to say recently about season 3, you can do so here.
