‘American Idol’ season 12 spoilers: Are we about to see more wild cards?

American Idol

Before this season of “American Idol” even kicked off, one of the things that we were very much led to believe was that for the first time in quite a while, we could actually have ten finalists, and everyone who makes it into this next round would also happen to be a part of the show’s annual tour. As it turns out, though, that may not actually be the case anymore.

In a new post on his official Twitter account, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe responded to a fan with a question about wild cards by saying that the decision is really up to both Fox and the judges; but when you really consider the fact that there are enough weeks left for the top twelve, which of course includes a judges’ save and then a double-elimination, that is probably what we are going to end up seeing. Plus, you also have to remember that Thursday night’s show is going to be a massive 90 minutes long, and there’s no way that it would need to be such a length if the show were simply considering having a top ten and not bringing anyone back.

What will be the most interesting to us is just whether or not Fox or the judges will go straight down the middle, and pair up the same amount of men against woman moving forward. This is obviously the best way to keep balance, but when the women are clearly better than most of the men right now, is this really the best way to do things? Don’t be stunned if the judges end up having a top 12 comprised of seven women and five men, even if this runs the risk of the female fanbases being stretched out a little too thin in the early going.

What do you think: do you like the wild card saving a few deserving singers, or do you prefer your “American Idol” to be something that is a little bit more pure? If you want to see who some of our current favorites are, all you have to do is check out the story over here.
