Lifetime reviving ‘Drop Dead Diva’ for season 5, after all
Talk about a hero’s comeback! After being originally canceled months ago for what were believed to be budgetary reasons, Lifetime has made the stunning decision to actually bring back “Drop Dead Diva” following fan protests and some plans that were put in place behind the scenes to make production on the series a little bit more viable.
According to a new report from Deadline, the truth pertaining to this show is that Lifetime never really wanted to see it go, and even after it was canceled, they still gave the show producers over at Sony Pictures TV an opportunity to present a plan that could make the show more financially viable; and while there are no details available as of this writing, they somehow found a way to do so.
“Drop Dead Diva” was already looking back in season 4 in order to do whatever it could to boost its ratings, and this even included at one point the controversial decision to sign reality TV superstar Kim Kardashian to a guest-starring arc to drum up attention from people who were not necessarily fans of the show. The problem Lifetime runs into with many of their scripted series is that they have a hard time trying to find ways to publicize the shows away from their own network, which is one of the reasons why “Army Wives” underwent such an extensive overhaul prior to the start of season 7 production.
What do you think: is the network now making the right move, or are you worried now that so many people are going to think that the show is still canceled that the ratings will end up suffering as a result? I am thrilled it’s coming back. I’m tired of being bombarded with so-called “reality” shows that are so fake and pointless. I love Lifetime because they actually still know how to produce a show with real actors and real stories written by talented writers. Americans have been sucked into the “reality” realm and I really don’t get it. Who cares what some filthy rich “housewife” is doing this weekend? And I definitely don’t care about the low-class drama some no-name “dance mom” has created for herself either–hopefully they are all being charged with child abuse. What’s wrong with people that watch that trash? I like DDD because it’s a mix of fantasy and real-life problems. But it never gets too heavy even though it sometimes touches on serious subjects. It’s a show I can watch to relax and it leaves me in a feel-good mood. Thanks, Lifetime.

I’m happy the show is coming back. Lifetime has taken a turn for reality shows because they are cheaper, but I don’t like them because its all fake to make drama. Army Wives/Diva are great shows for women. I thank them for giving Diva another run, and I hope it continues. The cast of this show is remarkable and I love every character, even Kim.
