ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 5: Molly Quinn, cast celebrate 100 episodes

ABC’s “Castle” has just hit a pretty major milestone … so why not relax and let them eat cake? The show is currently in the process of working on their 100th episode, and with that the cast and crew are following tradition and throwing themselves a little party.

The photo to the left was tweeted by series star Molly Quinn (Alexis), and you have to admit that it is one of the tastier books-with-a-bloody-pen-in-it that we have ever seen. The show has has had what is in many ways an unorthodox path to make it to this milestone. It originally debuted as a spring replacement, and this is notably a time in which it is rather difficult for shows to succeed in. However, it slowly and surely developed a fanbase following “Dancing with the Stars,” and has become a staple of the network’s Monday-night lineup.

As for whether or not the show makes it to another 100 episodes, that seems unlikely based on the fact that Nathan Fillion has expressed disinterest in dragging a show out beyond its natural life, saying instead that it is often better for a series to go out when it still has momentum, and when people are still talking about them. (Most network contracts are for either six or seven seasons, so pending a likely renewal this discussion will probably happen at some point next year.)

For now, let’s just enjoy the view of the cake and celebrate.
