‘American Idol’ notes: Mariah Carey, Kris Allen, Crystal Bowersox

For this edition of “American Idol” notes, we really are talking about anything and everything related to music. We have a new snippet to share from Mariah Carey’s new single, and also a performance from Kris Allen and some details about Crystal Bowersox’s new album. We have quite a bit to get to here … so let’s dive straight in!

Listen to Mariah’s “Almost Home” – You can pick up the entirety of Mariah’s “Almost Home” (from the movie “Oz: The Great and Powerful”) over on iTunes, but for now the 30-second preview of the song is all that is online.

We can tell you from hearing the full version that it is a nice departure from some of Mariah’s past music, but we have a feeling that it may be a little more polarizing to some of her diehard fans looking for something more R&B-based.

Kris Allen’s new cover – Kris, as you know already, has been covering songs throughout his recent tour, and his recent one from Seattle in Radiohead’s “High and Dry” certainly does not disappoint. Did anyone anticipate Kris doing anything but a great job with this? Anyone who sings Radiohead is brave to begin with, mostly because the songs are so difficult to begin with, and anyone who loves the band will scrutinize the heck out of you.

Crystal’s new cover – Check out the album art to the left for Crystal Bowersox’s new disc “All That For This,” which is going to be released on March 26.  Her new single (entitled “Movin’ On”) is already being sent to some radio formats.
