NBC’s ‘The Office’ season 9 spoilers: Who will join Mindy Kaling in final episodes

Jim and PamThanks in part to the recent unveiling of Brian as well as some other unnamed members of the documentary crew on “The Office,” there has been a little bit of a renewed interest in NBC’s story moving forward to the series finale in May. So to go along with that, we have a feeling that a good many out there will be rather pleased to hear that there are also a number of familiar faces stopping by before the show comes to a close.

So how many past stars will there be specifically? Jenna Fischer announced recently on her Twitter that it would be six. We already know about B.J. Novak, Mindy Kaling, and Zach Woods all coming back … but who else could there be? With so many series regulars being a part of the show since the beginning, some of the only other notable candidates include Idris Elba, Will Ferrell, Amy Ryan, David Koechner, Amy Adams (who appeared prior to her becoming a major star), James Spader, Kathy Bates, or Rashida Jones. The more “unlikely” list includes Jim Carrey, Ray Romano, and Ricky Gervais, just because they only had brief cameos previously and there would be no sense in them returning.

Now, it should be noted that Fischer posted her tweet prior to Mike Schur returning as Mose, so there could only be two major characters left to return other than Ryan, Kelly, and Gabe. Sadly, Steve Carell has already confirmed that he will not be coming back, with the primary reason being that he was happy with how we said goodbye to the character the first time around.

Who do you want to see return to “The Office” moving forward on the show now? Be sure to share some more of your thoughts below, and you can read our review from Thursday night’s two episodes over at the link here.
