‘The Vampire Diaries’ review: Is [spoiler] really dead, and is Klaus losing it?

The Vampire Diaries CastWith every episode of “The Vampire Diaries” season 4 right now, we are growing closer and closer to finally figuring out just what the vampire cure and Silas really mean, and who in the world of Mystic Falls has been siding with who.

Basically, there was a major division from the get-go this week as to who among the Originals should get the dagger. Elena, for example, was firmly in the camp of trying to take down Rebekah. Why? She wanted to take down Kol, and he is actually reluctant to allow Silas and the cure to escape from his prison, largely because he thinks it would wreck havoc on earth.

As for the Bonnie story, her parents actually decided to step up for a change! Her mother and father tried to stop her from going about her witch business, but we have a feeling that this is not going to quite work.

As for the rest of the episode, there was a shocker at the end: Kol seems to be dead, and the Original family is down to three. The only thing that really made this death all the more interesting was the way in which it happened: the Salvatores had nothing to do with it. Instead, it was Jeremy who managed to complete his hunter’s mark, while Elena provided a valuable assist while Klaus shouted from his temporary prison that he wanted to be the one to stake his brother. It’s possible that some of these characters are going to come to regret this death. And on a personal level, we’re going to miss him being in the “Originals” spin-off. The only positive that comes out of this is that the story may become less convoluted now.

Also at the end here, we saw Damon punch Stefan in the face over some not-so-nice comments he made about the sire bond. So there you have it: even when they aren’t killing machines, the sibling rivalry still exists.
