The Goldbergs renewed for season 10 at ABC; who’s returning?
According to a new report over at Deadline, the network is bringing back the Sony TV comedy (the longest running live-action comedy on broadcast TV) for a season 10. Cast members Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile and Hayley Orrantia are all coming back, and we already reported that Wendi McLendon-Covey had a new deal to potentially come back. (Sam Lerner, who joined the show in season 5, will also be back.)
So what does this mean when it comes to the future of Murray Goldberg? We know already that Jeff Garlin is gone from the show, and the writers were forced to resort to rather creative methods to work around him for the final episodes of this season. They will need to find a more permanent solution for season 10, and it is a hard issue to tackle given that the character was so prominently intertwined into everything. Also, you don’t want to punish the character because of the actor departing following HR investigations.
We’ll likely hear more about the show’s season 10 plans a little bit later this year; meanwhile, its place in the schedule will be announced at some point in May. Hopefully, we’ll learn before too long if season 10 is the final one, mostly because you want to give the writers time to come up with a fitting conclusion. We’re almost certainly closer to the end at this point than the beginning, so we do have to keep that in mind. We’re sure that no matter when it ends, there will be a happy, celebratory way to send it off into the sunset. It deserves it after so many years.
