‘The Americans’ preview: Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys are coming to FX
AMC has been leading the pack with shows like “Mad Men”, “Breaking Bad” and “The Walking Dead”, but over the past few years FX has come to the forefront with it’s line up of shows like “Justified” and “American Horror Story”, so when we heard that they were bringing a new spy thriller to our homes called “The Americans” we couldn’t be more excited to jump into this world of politics, espionage and the KGB.
Keri Russell (Felicity) and Matthew Rhys (Brothers & Sisters) star in “The Americans” as KGB spies that have been planted in America as a “married couple” to try and gather intelligence for Russia. What we feel is going to be the hook in this story for viewers will be the relationship between the two spies. Their marriage is a sham and part of their job, so what happens to these two after playing husband and wife together for a long period of time: Will their feeling for one another grow? Can it begin to interfere with their job? Will their relationship be believable enough that they can smoothly assimilate into American society without being suspected?
Another thing we are interested to watch is how the series plans to make the two KGB spies not only people American audiences can relate to, but also people that we would actually end up rooting for – almost like what Showtime did with “Dexter” where viewers are rooting for him to come out on top despite the fact that he is a killer.
The preview for “The Americans” (you can check it out below) looks promising and we are excited to see Keri Russell back on our TV sets. We are hoping that it will live up to it’s hype and be a good replacement for “American Horror Story” now that it’s over for the time being. “The Americans” premieres on Wednesday, January 30 at 10 p.m. on FX – will you be tuning in?
