‘Private Practice’ series finale spoilers: Final dish from Amy Brenneman
It’s difficult even to process that we are nearly at the end of “Private Practice,” but within the span of just twelve hours from this writing, Shonda Rhimes’ “Grey’s Anatomy” spin-off series will officially be at an end.
While it does appear as though many characters that were a part of the franchise for many years are going to receive some sort of happy ending, it is not always going to be in the way in which you expect. For example, Amy Brenneman tells TVLine that despite what we saw as the beginnings of something with a bookstore worker during last week’s episode, Violet is going arrive to Addison’s wedding single, and it was a personal point by both her and Rhimes to have it be that way:
“Violet is proudly single. Dammit. No, that was actually something that I weighed in on with Shonda, because there really wasn’t anybody that we were building to [her being with], and there are also a lot of great, happy, single people out there. So I was like, ‘Can Violet please be single?'”
Having Violet remain romantically unattached does assist “Private Practice” in allowing for some sort of much needed balance with the cast, especially if you consider that the majority of the other characters have been involved in some sort of romantic subplot this season already. Amelia and Sheldon have new people in their lives, Sam is dating again after being rejected by Addison, and we are of course closer than ever to Addison diving into marriage yet again.
Expect what will hopefully be both a happy and emotional hour of television tonight, and of course we will be back upon its conclusion to share some more thoughts about everything that happens.
