‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4: Why is Ian Somerhalder heading to Hungary?

Ian SomerhalderThere are plenty of reasons as to why “The Vampire Diaries” has become a phenomenon, but one of them simply has to be just how international the show has become. Not only are there fans in such predictable places as America and Canada, but the fanbase stretches out to such places like Asia, Britain, France, and even Eastern Europe.

With that in mind, we are pleased to report that a number of cast members are going to be heading to the first-ever convention for the show in Hungary this coming summer. Ian Somerhalder announced his participation in a new post on Twitter, and the event is known as the Charming Vampire Convention. As it turns out, there is an additional reason for Ian to be involved in this, as 25% of the profits will be going directly back into Ian’s foundation to help battle environmental causes.

In case you are curious, there will be some other guests present at the event who fans should be more than familiar with, including Sara Canning (Jenna), Matt Davis (Alaric), and Todd Williams (Connor). Do you see a common thread in here? Well, you should: all three of these characters are dead on the show. However, Davis is going to be on another show on The CW in “Cult,” which is going to start airing some new episodes at the conclusion of “Emily Owens M.D.’s” run  next month. (He has also remained open to returning to “The Vampire Diaries” at any point if they want him.)

“The Vampire Diaries” season will be back on The CW Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. Eastern, and in case you have not heard already, be sure to also check out the big news pertaining to the upcoming spin-off starring Joseph Morgan and Phoebe Tonkin.
