‘Glee’ season 4: Who’s taken a guest-starring gig on another Fox show?

GleeThanks in part to the format of “Glee” season 4, it has enabled a good many of the show’s longtime actors a chance to appear on some other programs and do other things, while at the same time being available to shoot whenever Ryan Murphy calls on them. Take for example how Lea Michele has worked on a debut album, or Dianna Agron spent much of the fall filming a movie overseas.

So who is the latest actor to book some work elsewhere? It’s none other than Burt Hummel himself in Mike O’Malley! According to Entertainment Weekly, the actor will appear in an upcoming season 3 episode of “Raising Hope” alongside Liza Snyder as a couple who finds an old X-rated tape made by Burt (Garret Dillahunt) and Virginia (Martha Plimpton). This marks a notable casting for O’Malley for a pair of reasons:

1. While many children of the 1980s and 90s best know him for hosting a variety of Nickelodeon programs (including a personal favorite in “Guts”), O’Malley broke out in the minds of many for playing a role on the sitcom “Yes, Dear” over on CBS.

2. This marks an opportunity for O’Malley to work again with Greg Garcia, the “Raising Hope” executive producer who used him a number of times as a gay police officer on “My Name is Early” before NBC canceled it several seasons in. (Note: we’re still bitter about it.)

O’Malley has tried his luck in pilot season as of late with some comedy series, but none of them have as of yet managed to stick. While he has admitted to loving playing Kurt Hummel’s dad, he also recognizes now that there is only so much that he is going to be able to appear given that Chris Colfer’s character is in New York.
