‘The Carrie Diaries’ spoilers: AnnaSophia Robb talks playing Carrie Bradshaw
In preparation for the launch of “The Carrie Diaries” on Monday, January 14, The CW is starting to slowly role out some video content featuring the cast; so with that in mind, we present the latest video courtesy of one AnnaSophia Robb.
As you can see in the clip (which is coming to us via The CW), the show’s star does her best to explain just what some of the circumstances for this younger, more innocent version of the character we came to know and love played by Sarah Jessica Parker. While that Carrie Bradshaw was in many ways the social life of the party in New York City, this is just a small-town girl who is having a hard time in school:
“She has great friends … Carrie is having a rough time in school. Her dad thinks that she needs a distraction, which for Carrie ends up being all right since it ends up being in Manhattan.”
At some point, we will get over the inconsistencies that are here between this show (which is based off of the Candace Bushnell book) and the HBO series, and we were actually prepared to do so today were it not for the fact that over half of the people who have already commented on this video’s YouTube page have already pointed them out. We don’t really have any sort of problem with this being a sort of alternate-universe retelling of the Carrie story; however, what is a little bit more troublesome is that Robb herself directly references “Sex and the City,” and this is not the first time the show has directly promoted itself as being the sort of “story before the story” of that show. If it is going to go down that route and express itself as a part of that chronology, shouldn’t Carrie be a little bit more of a wild child and shouldn’t her father be nonexistent?
Regardless of any concerns that are out there, are you still looking forward to this show? If you want to watch another full-length trailer for “The Carrie Diaries,” you can do so by moving your mouse over to the link here.
