‘The X Factor’ USA: Did LeAnn Rimes end up hurting Carly Rose Sonenclar?
We are now a full 12 hours after the end results were announced on “The X Factor” USA, but there are still a number of questions that remain … with the primary one being whether or not Carly Rose Sonenclar was actually damaged in some way by her now-infamous duet with LeAnn Rimes, and the tabloid aftermath that came along with it.
Before diving too deep here, let’s try to lay the groundwork. After the performance itself happened on Wednesday night, Rimes (at least through her rep) suggested to TMZ that she was trying to help out a 13-year old girl in Carly who was “struggling with the song.” However, she later blasted this statement later, saying that she has not spoken with anyone and the only thing she had to say was that she wishes nothing but the best for her duet partner. TMZ’s head honcho Harvey Levin came on his live show moments after this new statement was released, verifying that he personally spoke with Rimes’ rep, and the first comment from the singer was something that they were told could be used on the website.
So where does this bring Carly Rose now? To the inevitable question in the title. As bad as the performance was, we actually do not feel as though it hurt her in the voting at all. Instead, this may have actually helped her to secure some more support from the voting public out of sympathy, since it was clear that she was doing a pretty good job with the song before Rimes even came out. The biggest obstacle that really stood in her was of winning was merely a country singer who had the whole “dad taking care of his family” story that helped Jermaine Paul and Javier Colon on the first two seasons of “The Voice.”
Do you think that LeAnn in any way actually cost Carly the “X Factor” title? We want to hear some of your thoughts below, and you can also read our full review of the finale over here.

Really Concerned

Fox should be ashamed for allowing what went on with the X Factor 2012 show. The Lee Ann Rimes duet was a insult to Carly and her family. Whatever the reason Lee Ann Rimes should have not been allowed to perform. It may or may not have affected the final outcome but, we will never know. What I find alarmimg is the the fact that they didn’t give a breakdown of the 35 million votes to see how close the competition ended. America got it wrong by not voting for the obvious talented person and the deserving winner. I hope it the future when people vote for contestants that they stick to talent and performance and not the smoke and mirrors we had in this competition.

Her Mom

According to Hollywood Gossip, Carly’s Mom did not blame LeAnn for Carly losing. In my opinion, she is partly to blame, but so is X Factor, Tate, and others.
Carly and Tate
December 23, 2012 @ 1:32 am
Carly might have lost her way a little due to the energy of LeAnn coming aboard and all the filth that went along with that and X Factor having no business putting someone with that kind of current reputation on Carly. Boo X Factor games! We’ll see how popular Tate turns out to be in record sales. Simon also threw Carly under the bus with his comments on Carly’s “Imagine.” That song was great; certainly more of a risk with creativity in music making than Tate. And she was perfectly on tone even if it wasn’t normal fare (remember Simon was the only judge who did not like it). Tate is creative at most in his ways of drinking beers with the boys, giving sob stories about how the others didn’t deserve the prize like him, and sticking his nose in crtiqueing and offering derailing comments on other contestants to media in finals. How about all the times in the finals that Tate was flat and off key? Simon never said a word. Boo! Tate was obviously favored despite his mediocre talent compared to a 13-year-old. His talent was generic run of the mill karaoke copying; sure he had a fine voice, but not enough to warrant his win and the horrible sabotaging of Carly by him and others in the final days. Again, LeAnn with her “trainwreck reputation” of late had no business in a duet for the win. Boo again!
Carly's Mom
December 23, 2012 @ 1:31 am
Carly’s mom should be livid. Whether she should share it as that could bring bad publicity is another story. Wouldn’t you as a mother or father stick up for your child who was apparently blamed for something by someone in mass media who did not take any accountability of her own? You would be a bad parent if you didn’t. It has nothing to do with “sore loser” and everything to do with being a “hero” against someone pointing destructive fingers at a child when it was clear LeAnn came on stage stumbling before she even met up with Carly. Of course it was LeAnn’s influence (and X Factor’s filthy sabotaging choice to have her in the first place) that derailed Carly who had performed pretty much flawlessly until then, and after then. Hmm. And Simon calling her an alien? That is rude and insensitive. She is just an angel, not a two-bit talentlacking song and dance trick so common in the records now.
What a Joke This Simon Bet Is
December 22, 2012 @ 3:15 pm
What a joke the news now says Simon lost a bet to LA that Carly would win. A complete coverup for the fact X Factor is rigged and they threw Carly under the bus with Rimes so she would lose.
Of Course
December 22, 2012 @ 2:07 pm
Of course she did. Sure didn’t help. X Factor sucks for doing that to Carly Rose.
Wow
December 22, 2012 @ 5:06 am
Wow, X Factor allowed Carly to be subject to the wolves with this Rimes thing. They must have known that haters would come and divert voting to tweeting about “drunk” LeAnn instead. Stinky move.
Funny
December 22, 2012 @ 4:57 am
Funny that this whole Rimes fiasco has gone viral in social media, and the fact that Tate won is but a minor point compared. But of course Tate is edging is way in business that is not his again (as he did by trashing Carly backstage on semi-finals–which was judges realm to critique) by saying Rimes had nothing to do with Carly’s loss. Bull! It certainly didn’t help counter loss. Poor Tate once again, all left out and wanting in. Please go take care of your kids who need a father, instead!
Best Luck to Rimes

May Rimes get the help she needs!
Carly 2nd?!
December 22, 2012 @ 4:45 am
How is it that Carly basically has more youtube hits on her videos (minus the Rimes one of course) than both Tate and 5th together? And she came in second? Something is fishy! X Factor up to no good. Bet they just thought Tate would be more marketable so rigged in his favor. Clearly Carly has more fans, so it seems.
Who knew
December 22, 2012 @ 4:43 am
Who knew many of the droves of Carly Rose Sonenclar fans could turn into Rimes haters and critics. Have they? Seems like it. And it’s all X Factor’s fault!
X Factor Is to Blame
December 22, 2012 @ 4:23 am
The main one to blame here is X Factor for sabotaging Carly Rose by pairing her with a person with REAL BAD publicity right now, LeAnn Rimes. They obviously didn’t want Carly to win because they would otherwise have placed her with a winner like the other two acts were. Placing Carly with a “trainwreck in the public eye” solidified the horribly manipulative and rigged nature of this show in my mind. They knew Rimes haters would pounce and the bad publicity would not be good for Carly votes. They were clearly grooming Tate and threw Carly under the bus by giving her Rimes. And then Rimes threw Carly under the bus by apparently blaming her for the unprofessional performance, and now Carly’s mother threw Carly under the bus by apparently blaming Rimes and perpetuating bad drama in social media and bringing yet more “bad” publicity to Carly instead of rising above and refusing to “play this sordid game.” Carly is the only one apparently not blaming anyone! Ultimately though, Rimes had no place in a performance “for the win” as she is so “hated” right now and hardly up to par with her singing and up to par interpersonally. Ultimately it was X Factor producers who stuck Carly with a “trainwreck” obviously to derail her from winning (let’s face it, Rimes could not possibly have helped her chances and X Factor is not stupid, they knew it). I will never watch another “talent” show on TV like X Factor or Idol, as they are manipulative, rigged annoyances that crap all over people for their own gain. And obviously had this competition been about talent and the good overall package of a person, Carly would have won. Instead, sob stories and mediocrity won in the end, not to mention a bunch of alterior motives like trainwrecking and derailing of others for selfish satisfaction and gain. Everyone was a victim here instead of X Factor who started the whole bitter ball rolling. And the worst victim of all was innocent and sweet Carly Rose, a 13-year-old prodigy, the only contestant to thank the audience after each performance, who is too good for it all. Honestly, she is better off without being in the clutches of a filthy X Factor winning prize and contract. Poor Carly Rose, without much of a voice here, well, compared to adults. But then, how can she be? She is a child at the whim of others. Her parents wanted that money more than Carly’s well-being? That is a question for the day. Boo hoo for all this!

I don’t think it necessarily hurt Carly as all the tabloid stuff didn’t really come out until after the voting. When I watched it live I thought something was wrong with Leann and she botched the duet, but it made me appreciate even more Carly’s talent in holding together the performance when her partner was such a train wreck. I also thought Carly out sung Leann even as it seemed Leann was trying to out “diva” her. All that being said I am happy for Tate and his family, although I do think they played the “struggling dad trying to support his family” card way too much. I think ultimately Carly will become the bigger name and have a superstar career while Tate will go the same way as many of the other winners of these type shows (can anyone name a current Taylor Hicks song?). While I voted for Carly, I’m almost glad she lost so she won’t be restricted by whatever ridiculous crap will be in the winner’s contract and can go in the direction she wants to go.
