‘The Carrie Diaries’ spoilers: Nostalgia, AnnaSophia Robb dominate new trailer
To go along with the series finale for “Gossip Girl” on Monday night, The CW decided to do the smart thing and give all of us a sneak preview of the next big thing that they have up their sleeve moving forward: “The Carrie Diaries.” Really, this project has the potential to either be a huge success for the network, or a catastrophic failure.
We don’t think we are exaggerating here when we say that “Sex and the City” is for fashionable women what “Star Wars” is for sci-fi fans, and this is the “Episode I” equivalent. The only difference? Instead of sticking in Jar Jar Binks, you’ve messed around with the origin story and made it into something more akin to the popular Candace Bushnell book rather than the HBO show. This is a risky move, since diehard viewers are going to question many things that are different here than in the original show.
We can’t harp on that forever, though; the trailer is largely fun, since it chooses to do more than play up the fact that AnnaSophia Robb is playing Carrie Bradshaw. It focuses on the 1980s time period to a great effect, in between the fashion, the music, and the general way in which everyone behaves. This is a show that will hopefully capture some of that time period’s fun, before people were able to tweet and post photos about every little thing they were doing in their lives. Hopefully, it will also remind us why Carrie was such a popular character to begin with when the original series aired a decade ago.
What do you think about this new promo? You want to view another clip from the show, all you have to do is head on over to the link here.
