‘Banshee’ trailer: First look at ‘True Blood’ creator Alan Ball’s next project
Even though Alan Ball may be leaving “True Blood,” he still has something else rather exciting coming up as an executive producer in the launch of a new series over on Cinemax: “Banshee,” which looks to be based on its first trailer a combination of “Breaking Bad,” “Breaking Amish,” and “The Killing.” You have a surprising character taking up residence as a sheriff, and is doing so in a town where many people are still isolated from the rest of the world. However, that does not mean that the place is devoid of problems.
It’s not entirely easy just yet to discern just what the story is going to be about, but what we like about the show thus far is that it is something that Ball is involved with that does not have anything to do with anything supernatural. Heck, there’s not any strange dreams just yet like we saw in “Six Feet Under.” Instead, it just feels as though we have a gritty crime drama that could be great fun to watch.
So how will this series ultimately fare? For the time being, that seems to be one of the million-dollar questions given that Cinemax is not completely known just yet for producing original series of this variety (though “Strike Back” is one great example of the work that they have put out there). They are taking a similar strategy to Starz, though, in trying to launch the show on a Friday night in hopes that it takes off and either finds a loyal audience of live viewers or people willing to set their DVRs.
Based on this trailer, do you think that you would give “Banshee” a chance? If you want to read some news concerning a past “True Blood” star making an appearance on another show, you can do so over here.
